I’ll have more on the NCAA tournament here soon, but a couple of things first … if you see any reference in my ESPN.com copy about Andrea Riley missing a second-round game (should the Cowgirls advance that far) just ignore it. It’s a mistake soon to be fixed. (Note from MV: It’s fixed.)
Sometimes, I swear, you have no idea how you type things that are that wrong …. except that you’re tired. I once referred to “UCLA’s” Lisa Leslie instead of “USC’s” in a story, and also once spelled Bonnie Henrickson’s name wrong (Hendrickson) through an entire column. The whole column!
But perhaps the most bizarre thing I ever did was misspell my own name wrong in a byline. I had been covering a high school state track meet and was very tired. Went back to my newspaper, wrote the story .. and just as the page was going back to be printed … it hit me, “Wow, my name looks strange.”
Then I realized why: I’d spelled it Michelle. Seriously, I did that – messed up my own name. Luckily, I had time to change it.
Anyway, before moving on to NCAA tournament stuff, here is my last AP ballot of the season, along with my All-America and player of the year/coach of the year votes. I am sure there will be some disagreement about my choices, which I totally understand.
