Conference season! Yes, today, it officially kicks in for the Big 12, and so now all the “major” leagues have started their “family” feuds.
Which will result in all of the following phrases repeated endlessly by coaches from one end of the country to the other:
*-“There are no nights off in this league.”
*-“We just beat each other up.”
*-“On any given night, anything can happen in this league.”
*-“We’re not like some leagues where there are a few ‘easy’ games.”
*-“In this league, every single night is a battle.”
*-“You can’t afford to look past anybody in this league.”
*-“I thought this league was tough last year, but it’s even tougher this year.”
*-“Everybody is so well-prepared in this league.”
*-“We’re all just trying to survive in this league.”
*-“I think we deserve at least (fill in the blank with slightly preposterous number) teams in the NCAA tournament.”
I’m off to the Missouri-Texas A&M game, where I’m sure despite the Tigers’ relatively lowly status on the Women’s Basketball Food Chain, the Aggies have not looked past them. Because there are no nights off in … well, you get the picture.
